Here’s why registering domains with CloudFlare is the definitive way to go

Internet domains are fundamental for the deployment of web pages and web services, we as web developers or backend programmers need to acquire, manage and publish domains.

In general terms, they are used to configure DNS records (A/AAAAAA, CNAME, TXT, MX, etc.), name servers (NS), their proper prevention of transfer to third parties, “Whois” records (registrant, status, dates, etc.) among other various technical features that depend on it.

There are many companies that register domains, avoiding burning brands (for their bad practices) there is for example GoDaddy, unfortunately companies of this style, sometimes when using their domain availability search engine register (they directly or with third parties to disguise) to monopolize the domain that interested you, these companies also offer very attractive prices or additional services, unfortunately not everything is good because for example from the second year, when you want to transfer, add additional functions, etc. there are surcharges or excessive charges.

As “ordinary” users we do not have the possibility to register domains directly with ICANN, we depend on third parties for this, I recommend from my own experience platforms like Google Domains, Amazon Route 53, Azure, IBM Cloud (and similar) because their main business is not selling domains and they allow themselves to charge a low commission for domain administration, but after much experience my favorite is CloudFlare.

Why registering domains with CloudFlare is the definitive way?

Mainly it is a very powerful company that provides a whole communications infrastructure beyond just domains, it is a practically new service but they offer registration at no extra charge, according to their website:

Cloudflare Registrar will only ever charge you what we pay to the registry for your domain. No markup and no surprise fees.

Almost all the companies that provide this service have different ways of business, CloudFlare is “free” (apart from the ICANN fee), in fact in a post made by CloudFlare CEO (Matthew Prince) he explains the reasons why they are so “kind” (I did a lot of research because I thought there was “something fishy”) that in general terms they are such a massive company that they can afford to offer free services, apart from providing by default their massive DDoS protection services, free TLS/SSL certificate (always), immediacy of changes when making changes in DNS records (they themselves have DNS servers that are used by millions of people and ISP companies), this post is my own opinion, I’m sharing my point of view after being a web developer for more than 8 years.
